Convoy Application Guide

How To Apply Convoy Non-Skid Coatings

Apply Convoy by brush or roller to create a durable non-skid safety finish on concrete, wood, metal, aluminum, and previously painted surfaces.

Safety First

Always use proper personal protective equipment before starting your project. Review the product label, technical bulletin, and safety data sheet before application.

Brush or Roller

Apply by Brush or Roller

Convoy non-slip coatings can be applied by brush or roller.

The easiest method is a 9" roller with a 1/4" cover or a textured “frieze” type roller cover.

Roll It Out

Pour & Roll

Pour Convoy onto the prepared surface and roll it out evenly.

Be sure to adequately cover the surface being coated for proper non-skid performance.

Spray Caution

Spraying Not Recommended

Spraying Convoy is not recommended for general use.

An experienced applicator with the necessary equipment may be able to spray apply this type of product successfully.

Application by Surface Type

Choose the correct primer and preparation steps based on the surface being coated.

Concrete

Convoy non-slip coatings can be applied by brush or roller. Pour Convoy on the prepared concrete surface and roll it out, making sure the surface is adequately covered.

Wood

Apply one coat of #310 Wood Primer to bare wood before applying Convoy II. Super “X” Convoy and Super Convoy require no primer on wood.

Metal Other Than Aluminum

After cleaning metal, apply one coat of #309 Convoy Metal Primer. For Super Convoy and Super “X” Convoy, one coat of #219 Epoxy Metal Primer is recommended.

Aluminum

After cleaning aluminum, apply one coat of primer. Use #309 Metal Primer before Convoy II. For Super “X” Convoy or Super Convoy, apply one coat of #215 Bonderite Metal Primer.

Previously Painted Surfaces

Convoy II, Super Convoy, and Super “X” Convoy will adhere to other paints that are well bonded to the substrate.

If old paint is peeling or scaling, remove all loose or poorly bonded paint before coating.

Remove Loose Coating

Slightly peeling paint may be removed with an electric buffer equipped with a coarse sanding disc.

Where widespread peeling exists, complete paint removal is recommended. Glossy surfaces should be sanded before coating.

After Paint Removal

Where paint remover or a caustic solution is used, scrub the surface with #910 Washing Compound or trisodium phosphate to remove cleaning contaminants. Any bare surfaces should be appropriately primed.
